I've pushed the lock button on my EF many a time when returning to my car only for it to lock in front of my eyes, with me going 'oh @#$!'

Anyway, can anyone think of a way to add a 'chirp' so that it is like some car alarms that chirp once or twice when you lock them so i can hear it when I'm walking away from my car?

surely you could make your own cicuit to tack onto each door, which feed to a speaker? if your feeling paticularly smart im sure it could be linked to the indicators too.

I'm sure you could, but i don't know how hence the question!

If the circuit ran off the indicator it would chirp every time i indicated whilst driving which i really don't want.

Correct. 2 flash for locked, 1 for unlocked.

There is a Jaycar kit for a relay switch - take a low current input and then switches a relay

Take the Lock wire for the door motors, and use it to trigger said relay. Use the relay to drive a small peizo siren and you should get a chirp.

Sounds perfect, any idea what is it called?

And yes i am aware that it flashes twice on the lock. Not very useful though.

will work

and

might....

You may also need a small timer if it pulses too fast to make sure that your siren actually chirped.

Actually the best way to do this would be a PIC based thing - but I havent had anything to do with them for 4 years now.

Thanks mate.

Where would it be best to tap into for the trigger? Thinking the actuator of one of the doors..? But then it would chirp once no matter of locking or unlocking, would it not?

The actuators are 3-wire actuators - they have a common line, and one line for lock, one for unlock.

You can get those wires from a few places. You could try the kick panel (either side of front of car) where the door harnesses are. You could try around the smartlock unit. You wont have to go inside the door though. Id recommend quick-crimps while you test it out. You should also test with a multimeter to make sure you get polarity right etc.
