My mum bought a brand spanka manual focus last year, and experiences some engine ping when changing into 3rd and sometimes at low revs, we asked the dealer and they said its the fuel, aparantly it needs to run on bp pemium fuel, which I must say is a load of whatever, surely a brand new car should not have this kind of problem? My thinking is its tuned wrong. But anyway, I can't touch it its under warranty still, so does anyone have any ideas? Apart from the obvious (runing on premium) which my mum is currently doing.
Charlie.

well since its brand new, put some bp premo in it, if it pings, take it back to ford and chuck a tantrum in front of everyone.
that should do it

Uhh, just run it on premium. If shes got the dosh for a new car, the extra what, $5? per tank for premium wont kill her.

Euro 4 bangers, unless it actually says on the fuel cap that it is E10 compliant, it gets run on 98RON, 95RON does not exist is Euro-land, E10 does not exist, they have E85 and 98RON (premo)

The factory handbook will state that it is designed to run on 95.

The ford dealer is right. It is designed to use 95octane fuel. This is also not uncommon.
