Hey all,
the motor in my DA is slowly and painfully starting to die by the feel of things, so what i'm thinking is: -Get the block cleaned up -Fit the EL hybrid head -Fit the EL BBM -AU Injectors and -Maybe a Wade mild cam. If i use the EL ECU and loom, this should all work nicely if i'm not mistaken. Anybody got any thoughts or suggestions on this? Kind Regards Rob |

Fit a complete AU motor with EL loom and dizzy, not much point rebuilding the block, a newer fresher donk can be dropped in for considerably less alot of the time.

yeah i thought about that, but i'm not sure as to the extent i have to modify the sump and i know that i don't have the skills to do it myself...
i spose i should add that the budget is seriously tight, like, nun tight |

Then rebuilding the motor is sort of out of the equation too. just snag a e series motor and drop it in the hole. There is usually one or 2 going round the traps on different forums.
Organise some guys and beers and make a day of it. BBM conversion as well and serp setup are all advantages.

There are a few motors going for honest $4 on here at the moment too. worth a look at for sale. even an ED one I think, just slot it straiught in, no looms to screw with plug and play.

why do you say it's dying? my EB's original 3.9 had a bottom end knock and blow by for 12 months. and i drove it hard. just put some thick oil in it lol.
but even an AU motor running the original log manifold

EF or EL XR6 engine is always a cheap and easy upgrade for the early E series

Its probably dying. Hell my AU is finally dying and I need to replace it with something soon before its too late.

i think it's dying cos it's got more knocks than a brothel and blows a fair bit of smoke (but i have a feeling that's a fueling issue).
it's up near 291,000km now so it could be due for a headgasket soon, but i have a feeling i'll try injector clean/replace before i jump to any conclusions. but i've never ever seen a car that runs so rich, it's using 18L/100km atm and that's not even driving it spiritedly. |

I used to get so much blow by, I used to end up with fuel in the oil and the crank case gasses were phenominal!
If its running rich, I would suggest you look at the oxy sensor, they do die, you end up with even worse fuel economy than what ford ever designed. But a solid service would probably do it the world of good, if its burning oil, I would switch to a heavier oil, as long as it maintains oil pressure I would not stress too much. Throw some filters at it, and check and replace sensors accordingly, oxy sensor I would almost assure you is rooted.
