Ive noticed when my xr6 turbo is still not completely warmed up yet that it can make abit of a ticking noise when foot is pressed down abit, like obviously i dnt mean flat to floor as im well aware its not good to foot it untill the car is properly warmed up but obviously hills and stuff require bit of extra push.
Anyone know what this ticking is? once its warmed up doesnt ever tick

could be pinging (also called knock, detonation, spark knock)

what fuel do you run?

how long since the last tune/service?

im running 98octane, i like using BP ultimate (personal choice)

its coming up to its service early next year, last service was couple of months ago.
this noise only happens when its cold and boost comes on.
i now have made it an absolute priority that i do not even slightly put my foot down untill the car is completely warmed up which then it makes no ticking noises at all.
its purely just a cold thing from what ive gathered

Maybe its an exhaust leak from a loose turbo or exhaust manifold bolts.

When the thing warms up, the joins expand and leak disappears.

Wouldn't be the first turbo with loose bolts. And from memory, doing up these bolts on a T is optional in service. So if you haven't done it yourself, it might pay to check and do them.

they are renound for turbo bolts coming loose or droping out, it could also ba a lifter but should do it at all rev or boost range once it warms up the oill gets thiner and flows better so it will bleed the lifter out easier

Bassy500,
Just wondering if you ever found the problem?

I seem to have the same noise on my XR6T when it's cold (Ticking noise that speeds up with light to medium throttle. It almost sounds like it comes from the centre console vents.)

Thanks
