disconnect battery...
re connect battery, start and run in park for 2 mins, put it in drive idling for 2 mins, put it in neutral idling with aircon on for 2 mins.( thats if your aircon works) then put it in drive idling with aircon on for 2 mins(thats if your aircon works) the idea of thrashing the car and reving the s**t out of it is all bull s**t!!! the whole idea of re setting the ecu is to return it to the factory settings, and the only part of the ecu that learn/changes is whats called closed loop. this is only for idle and normal operation, when you thrash it/ heavy to full throttle the ecu goes into open loop which is the factory setting anyway... |

Quote: 'Any time the battery is disconnected, the transmission must re-learn the closed and wide-open throttle positions to enable the PCM to determine the proper gear to select for the appropriate throttle position. If the calibration is not performed following power source interruption, the transmission will shift hard and perform poorly.
Also thanks to GTbob for providing the below snippet straight from the FORD EF/EL workshop manual. This seems to be a general relearn procedure but not for the TPS limits, so i guess auto shift points may still be rough for a while. As a clarifying note, i guess that for 5. & 6., you place the car in D with the handbrake firmly applied and do not touch the accelerator peddle. The correct way to set idle speed after battery disconnection is: 1. Run engine until operating temp reached and thermostat opened. 2. The engine should then be idled for approx 1 minute in each of the following conditions (total idling time approx 4 minutes) 3. Neutral with all electrical loads OFF. 4. Neutral with Air conditioning ON. 5 Drive with all electrical loads off. 6. Drive with Air conditioning ON. NOTE DO NOT TOUCH THE ACCELLERATOR DURING ANY PERIOD OF THE ADAPTIVE PROCESS. 7. Next, set the wide-open throttle reference position by turning the engine off- but leave the ignition switch ON, then press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it for 1 minute minimum. - Place the gear selector in Park and switch off the ignition. - Drive the vehicle and check for proper shifting patterns.
