Hey lads,
How hard would it be to change the door locks in an NF? My mate has a problem that ANY falcon key can unlock it and get into his car.. We noticed by locking his car with my key and his keys were in, and jokingly I said, "i wonder if I can unlock it" and it unlocked with my key.. weird.. Just wondering if there is a quick fix for it? Or do we have to change the entire locks... |

The door locks are not all that hard to change,
Take door trim off remove plastic film disconnect linkages from door lock and outer door handle remove door handle remove slide on clip from back of door lock remove door lock from outside. Problem is your going to want to change boot and ignition also, so all locks match the same key.

This is the first time that I have heard of such a thing happening to the tibbe keyed falcons. This is a common problem to some other cars (notably the VB-VL Commodores). The lock pins have worn over time.My suggestion is to remove the locks and take them to a good locksmith. Get the locksmith to rebuild the barrels with stronger pins in it. This way, all your locks will still use your existing key, there will be no need to change your other barrels and this SHOULD fix the problem.
Hope that this is some help.

I had always been told that any Falcon key can lock a car, but not unlock it. My mate showed me with his EL key on my EF.

How would the lock pins wear over time when I imagine the lock is very rarely used?
BTW, a mate of mine locked his keys in his Falcon and the guy who he was visiting unlocked it with his Falcon key. (an EF)

Seems like it's not too difficult to remove the lock mechanism from the car.
It's something which i may have to do at some time as some brat stuck a small piece stick of wood into the passenger lock It's too far in to just pull the wood out, so the whole lock mechanism needs to come out of the car. Does anyone know if it is possible to push the stick out from the rear of the lock mechanism, or is a new lock mechanism needed ? Cheers. |

I'm looking at a lock at the moment, I don't see any way of pushing something out from the back. Once you get the lock out though, you maybe able to get the wood out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Can't get to that s**t piece of wood with long nose pliers but i'll see how i go when i find time to look at the lock. Maybe some very fine needle nose pliers would work, if not i may need another lock Cheers |
