probably worth mentioning the air filter. Is it dirty.

I have the same thing happen to mine every now and then.
It only happens after a good long drive. When the engine does that, it hunts up and down from around 200-300rpm up to about 1000rpm. If I stab the throttle, it revs up, but continues hunting afterward. If I hold the brakes and apply a smidge of throttle it picks up and holds its revs. The other thing I have done is turn the engine off, then re-start it. That always seems to fix it. But what causes it in the first place, I don't know. It normally idles happily at around 800-850rom in Drive. I haven't been able to trace the cause.

The same nonsense was recently happening to my BA, but I cleaned out the throttle body and unplugged the battery for about an hour, which seemed to fix alot more than what I expected.
Not too sure if it was from resetting the ECU or not, but after doing it, it idled at around 800rpm instead of 450, noticeably more responsive throttle and gear changes were silky smooth at speed and at a stand still. |

I dont know how similar it would be to a problem i had in my EF
I had the exact same symptoms, it was a dodgy ISC that caused them
