Hi
Purchased a pretty good 6 cylinder XC fairlane and just recently a 302 cleveland to replace the 6. Intend the car to be a pretty stock standard version of this model with limited modifications Current transmission in the car is a C4 - I understand this does not need to be replaced when the 302 is installed Does the radiator, starter motor need and any other parts need replacing in order to run the 302 cheers Gary |

Sorry to be picky, is it a XC fairmont or ZH Fairlane?
Attachment: this is a ZH Fairlane. V8's do have different starters, radiator upgrade wouldn't hurt but if the inlet and outlets are on the correct sides it'll probably do for now, Radiator support panel is fine as is, not sure about C4 though, it would at least need to have bellhousing changed as sixes are totally different to V8's as well, engine mounts etc also are different.

OK lets be clear, I'm not trying to be rude, but, there is no such thing as a XC Fairlane. XC is the designation for Falcon/Fairmont range the fairlanes are "Z" ZH is the model designation for the Fairlanes of the XC era, sorry dude but I'm trying to figure out which model you have there mate!

It is very easy to do, especially if you have a donor car!
So if you can get the mounts, trans, etc it will be easy. |

Are you sure that it's a C4 auto.
More likely to be a bw35 or similar. If it is a C4, then it's from an XY/XA 6 originally. (Maybe XW had them too I'm not sure.) The bellhousing is totally different between the 6 and the 8. Otherwise you can use it, but. As to the fitment of the eight banger, the wiring is easy, the engine mount plates are different but bolt straight on. The radiator can often get you through, the trans as previously mentioned., obvious items like the exhaust etc all need to be changed. The old borgwarner diff should be ok. Brakes etc are the same anyway. So go for it. I have a few bellhousings for 8 cyl C4s here if you need one.
