Long story short, putting an EL cam and rack into my El hybrid (bought the wrong cam etc etc). Anyway the rack that I got has all the lifters and shims except for one lifter in one of the arms. It has a shim in it still, just no lifter or anything else. Can I use a lifter from the original hybrid head rocker rack in the EL rack?

Yes. Is the cam a regrind? If it is you will need to double shim each lifter ( 2 factory shims per lifter ). EF/EL/AU all use 11mm lifters. the AU lifters have metal retainers which can be reused unlike the EF/EL which use a plastic retainer which breaks when you take out the lifters. Do believe that Repco sell replacement retainers. Sorry if I am telling you what you already know.

Cool cool, can't the retainers not be re used if you don't want to (unsure if I read it in another thread). Thats all I need to know, thanks for the information. |

Trouble with the retainers in EF/EL's is that they get brittle with heat and usually break when you pull them out. I you don't want to get new retainers make sure that you tape around the lifter and the rocker before you fit the rocker set as the lifters have a habit of falling out and going where they shouldn't, once you have the Rockers set in place just remove the tape carefully. I use narrow masking tape. Others may have better ideas but that is what I do.

Yeah i've done that at my old work, taken a rack off on falcon motors and lifters go into oil galleries etc. Thankfully i was pulling the whole motor apart so they weren't lost for ever Might be better off getting the retainers just for ease of installation. |

theres a lot of debate around the issue.
Do yourself a fav, check it with a hand crank first

Another thing, bleeding lifters; is this just as simple as squeezing the lifters when they are out of the car to rid of all the oil and then reinstall them like that. Tried to search this as i've seen it before but couldn't find anything.
