I have a problem with the abs activating at very low speeds when braking.
I believe that the problem is the wheel sensors on one or other of the front wheels.
Can anyone suggest where replacements can be purchased at a reasonable price.

is the abs light on???

I would clean all the sensors 1st.... they gather alot of metallic particals on them and can cause them to do really wierd things....

I did try that.
I took the opportunity to give the discs a light skim as the right hand one had a slight run out and I did the usual clean of the sensors front and rear and even replaced the front pads in the hope of not having to visit that area again for awhile.
Worked great for a couple of months but has now come back with a vengence.

I had read somewhere that they are a problem.
I let the moths out of the wallet today and bought a right hand one from the Ford dealer.
I was kind of hoping that they were available from a non-genuine supplier for a bit less than the dealers being the tight bugger that I am.
The right hand one seems to be the one the dealers all keep in stock so I am working on the theory that will be the side that's crook. Yeah sure, Murphy's rule will no doubt overide that.

ummm if you are talking about the disk's they are the same left and right....
or was that just a misunderstanding on my part.

also if the sensors are s**t the abs light will be on so thats prob not your prob id say youv warped your discs again grab some dba slotted if thats the prob

could also be your caster bushes causing the the shudder too, another known problem with BA's

This morning I fitted the new right had sensor and went for a bit of a drive around the block.
It went great but only time will tell as the last time when I cleaned all the sensors it was good for about 2 months before the problem came back.
Gee, it's a great car to drive.
This is the very first problem it has had. I just put on a set of Bridgestone tyres a few weeks ago and they have made it so quiet and smooth compared to the old Goodyear Eagles that were a noisy as hell.

I think the thing to remember here is that the abs is working properly it is just being given crap info from the wheel sensors and that is why the light is not indicating a fault.
It is like the old saying relating to computers, "crap in crap out". The computer is not at fault when the operator puts in rubbish so therefore it cannot be blamed when it gets the wrong answer.
This is a totally different experience to what you get with a warped disc. A warped disc gives a constant shimmy through the steering wheel when the brakes are applied at any speed right down to when the car comes to a complete rest.
What I am getting is something that has to be experienced to be appreciated.
The brakes are perfect until the speed drops to approx 5klm per hour and just before it comes to a complete stop the front brakes are violently activated for 4 or 5 times in quick succession. It scares the living hell out of both my wife and me whenever it does it as it also makes a lot of noise as the brakes are rapidly released and then reapplied by the abs. It does not do it every time you stop, to make it even more nerve wracking, so just when you think everything is hunky dory, WHAM.

thats a strange prob youve got there the abs system shouldnt be active at 5kmh so you could have a pump,module or ecu problem get it scaned and see what codes come up also when the abs is being activated the light will flash, or stay on if there is a prob with one of the wheel speed sensors or another code being loged as soon as the computer pics up on one wheel speed being slower or faster than the others THE LIGHT WILL COME ON!!! it will tell you on the scanner which sensor is out of range or cohaficient also forgot to mention the abs pumps are renound for playing up

It's strange for sure but I have heard about it on other forums.

As I mentioned I have replaced the RH front wheel sensor and so far the problem has disappeared. I have done a fair few klms since and no more problem, not yet anyway.

I am probably scared to mention it, as it may jinx me, but I deliberately made sure I touched nothing else so that I had a fair idea that if it stopped the problem then that must have been it.

The ABS light comes on for the 2 seconds or so that it is supposed to when the car is started and then goes out as it should. I noticed that the wheel sensor has Germany stamped on it, which in the past would have given me some comfort as to it's quality, but over the last few years I have heard of a lot of problems with German cars and their electrics. Maybe they are getting like Pommie cars and Lucas electrics. You know the old jokes like:
Do you know why the Poms drink warm beer?
Because Lucas make the refrigerators!!
