G'day

I just replced my p/s pump with a reconditioned one and when i started up the engine, smoke started coming from that side of engine. I assume ive just managed to spill some fliud on tha alternator, but im just checking, i covered it with a bag but i still got a bit of fliud around the place, so its possble there was some fluid on the alternator.

Secondly, on start-up lately ive been getting a squeak from the front of the engine, but up until today the squeak has gone pretty quickly, but today it has kept going. It seems to be coming from near the A/C compressor. Should i be worried about this?

i have unlimited NRMA call-oputs, should i give them a bell? Im just going away fro a week tommorrow and when i get back i have to drive to melbourne so im keen to make sure its ok

thanks in anticipation

The smoke would mean that the fluids burning and should evaporate away or something.

Could the squeak be the pully on the air con buggered or fan belt on way out?

yeh i'm gonna have a look as well, get all belts changed plus my alternator is on the way out i think. It squeals when theres a high load such as rear demister on with headlights on as well at nite.

Whenever i stop at the lights, and go to take off it squeals till the volts gradually go up.... does it sound like the alternator is dying? Once i turn the rear demister off it goes away.

Will be looking at also changing to the highest possible alternator as well.

naa if the belts slipping its not likely to be the alternator.. more likely to be a belt adjustment/worn out belt issue...
