Hey all,

Just in process of preparing/gathering for a BBM conversion and just have some queries about the ECU side of it.

Firstly I have gathered I need a EL computer
but what I am wondering is will I HAVE to get a manual one or can the auto ones be tricked, I saw a thread about making one out of the factory auto loom (can't find it now) but also read it didn't work for one bloke so is it only possible on the car it came out of or somthing?

Also I have the thermos set up too but on it's own circuit I made with relay, switch etc. Will it be easy to hook up them to the computer or should I just leave a working thing working as it is?

And lastly, dumlock bypass, what's the easiest way? I'm good with wiring if it's just a cut and cross 2 wires, or dose anyone have a link to the ones off eBay?

I had a bit of a search but couldn't find anything specific so any help/knowledge will be great.

AND, if it comes to it, anyone know where I can get said EL ECU

You can use an auto ECU. You need to trick the ECU to believe the Auto is at the correct operating temp, and to tell it that it is always in Neutral. There is a doco on doing a manual conversion that has the resistor info etc.

I have mine running off a Davies Craig switch, but they can be hooked up to the ECU if you get all the relays etc from a donor car.

If your car is pre smartlock, you will need a smartlock bypass module. It will come with the relevant instructions on how to install it. The Ebay ones seem to have disappeared.

http://www.shiftkits.com.au/ have them.

I can sell you one and post it to you for $60 if you can't source one locally.

Cheers

Or you can do the whole J3 chip thing. A chip is inserted into your current 5 computer (EL) which should be able to get rid of a*** and also give you the added advantage of being a programmable tuning chip. Get the XR6 with a*** bypass installed via J3 - try tiperformance.com.au (or similar) or do a search on this site.

You still need to find an EL computer obviously - But every pick-a-part or u-pick or other wrecker in Aussie should have one them....... Auto though it may be.....

If you need/want a manual EL ECU, I have one here that I can sell you. I'm in Adelaide too.

You can have it for $60, which is what the Auto ones seem to go for. It is useless in my cupboard.

Grab it for that price mate. Manual ECUs are hard to get.

Firstly, thanks to everyone!

BenJ. I think i'll just leave the thermos as they are then if I need to do more wiring. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess lol.
I managed to find a bypass module on eBay, I'll do a bit of a hunt though (I hate paying full price or things, I'm a titeass in a way lol)

Fiend. Yes, I was lookin into wolf 3d and J3 chips, I think I'll wait till I get the whole engine together an then get one, save retuning or stuffing around if I do a minor mod.

Slo247. PM sent, thanks.
