hi guys,
i have an EB Falcon S'Pack with dual battery setup, 1 year old battery, reco'd 80amp Bosch Alt, new regulator, the old Alt had power steering fluid leaking on it and burnt out, i also had to replace the plug as it was melted, and when at idle the voltage on the dash says between 12 and 13 volts, when driving between 1000 and 2000 rpm it sits at around 14 volts, is this right or is there something wrong somewhere else in the charging system. any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Sounds about spot on! The alternators don't make much juice at idle, the increased engine speed obviously provides for more power once youre up above 2000rpm..

Yep at idle it will be a touch higher than battery voltage of 12.6

If that bosch alternator is like the one i recently pulled from a Eb 2 Ghia, it has markings on it saying 15/75 or something similar and 14v. The first number is at idle output, which if you have a few electronics running at idle your voltage will drop down, until engine & alternator speed picks up, as the output picks up with the rising engine rpm.
I remember in my Eb with a mitsubishi alternator, at idle with all the electrics running & then operating a power window it would drop down to about 12v, but it wouldn't drop if the rev's were up around 2000 rpm. With the EF 110amp alternator I have modified to fit, I don't get any drop at idle, I think it's idle power output is greater than the old alternators. Cheers ToranaGuy

What did you do to modify the EF alternator?? Change the pulley I guess, anything else?

I tapped the top bolt hole & put a m10 thread insert into it, ground the top of the front casing away a bit & modified the factory bracket to fit it. Details are in my build thread, 1st page I think. Fits & adjusts like a factory Eb alternator. Cheers ToranaGuy
