Hey Guys,
Well, a couple of years ago I stacked into another car, damaged the rad support, front bumper, bonnet, radiator, etc etc etc, anyway, on topic.... Before I stacked into the back of another car a couple of years ago the Air Con was really good, and then after I put it back together, got it painted, etc etc etc the Air con has never been the same since. It definitely works, because there is a slight drop in temperature as it comes on, but as I said, it just hasn't been as affective as it used to be. When I was repairing the car I let the gas out of the air con hoses, I did this to see if I had damaged any of the lines/condenser which sits behind the radiator, the air con still had full pressure, but I did replace the damaged but possibly working Condenser with a brand new one just to be sure. I also replaced the drier which is in front of the Radiator. I have heard that if you do give the Air Con compressors a knock they sometimes just won't work the same again, is this true? or should I be looking at something else instead? Also, if I should indeed be looking at the Air Con Compressor, is it possible to do what you can with Alternators and Power Steering pumps and just go to an specialist, hand in your old one and get a new exchange one instead? because if I could do that that would probably be the way to go, or is it just better to give it to someone and repair it or something? This is a subject I have minimal knowledge about, so anything you guys know would be awesome! Thanks

I guess you had the system re-gassed after the repair. Did the re-gas tech check the operation?
I have just had mine re-gassed with "Super Chill" OS 12A refrigerant for $50. and that doesn't require all the expensive bull that the older refrigerants needed......Swaggy.

I'm afraid you now have me lost swaggy.....
All I really know is that I'm told that once the system has been de-pressurised the Drier must be replaced. And yes I have obviously had the system regassed hense the reason for this post, as it hardly works now. The system was regassed with what I would have to call for the moment the "standard modern s**t" for the time being as I can't remember off by heart what air con speciallists regas the system with for the E series now, I can quickly check tomorrow morning what it was regassed with though. heathmurray wrote: ok u might think your aircon is at full pressure but by letting the gas out your losing your air con because the gas is the same that runs through your freezer so with less gas the warmer it will be you will need a re gas and maybe a new cartridge after the re gas ull be right just make sure u run ur aircon once a week for at least 10 minutes to keep the gas flowing and that includes winter You've miss understood me completely... Please read the FULL post before replying......

It would of been gassed with R 134A.
Does the thermo fan come on when the AC is on? If the condensor is getting too hot it wont work correctly. The pump could be shot. We had that problem on the XR8. AC was working but not good. Turns out it was a lazy pump. Could be the TX valve. Could be numerous things. Take it to an auto electrician that does AC and get it checked out. The fee for them to check it will easily be saved by not having to chop and change parts and regassing systems by guess work.

Ahhhhh, I knew it was R something, just couldn't remember... xD I'm only thinking it's the pump because, like I said, the car has been in a prang, and when I got the system regassed AFTER I replaced the condenser and drier, the thing hasn't been working since. I'm only thinking about this now because it's coming up to summer time, where, well, we all would like our air con working We have a very good auto electrician we're we are who's always been good to us, how much do you think I could be paying for that fee to at least have them check the system out?

Forgot to answer your question...
The Car is an ED, with an EF/EL thermo fan kit, using a davies craig thermo fan switch.
