Hi all
Well I reckon I have worked out a way in the Mav to be able to get everything setup and also keep the BBQ fuel on board. I would like to keep the BBQ bottle as I do like the idea of having 2 different fuel supplies as a fail safe out in the bush. Well the future of the Mav contains boost for a bit of a giggle. I reckon about 6LB's will be more then enough in the 5.0 to have some fun. So seeing as though I know very little about setting turbos up correctly I am starting to do some research. What do you reckon the chances of success with a duel fuel setup will be? The gas gear will be the Impco 425 set up as blow through and the fuel will just be an injection setup. I believe the tuning should be quite easily doable as with the Moates J3 chip you can fit a grounding switch to run 2 different tunes and change on the fly. This grounding switch will just be hooked up off a relay on the petrol/LPG switch. I appreciate a lot of people are going to laugh at me , but I am after some ideas and input from people in the know so I can start setting stuff up on it correctly to be ready in the future.

cant u just set it up like lpg injection?
might be more $$ but with a turbo on there the tuning ability would be far far greater

I was going to suggest GRA untill you mentioned your J3 has switchable mapping built into it.
In that case go for an injection kit and then your 2nd J3 map can be setup to control the LPG fuel map as well as the ignition timing. That way you have a spot on tune for both fuels. |

That's a pretty good idea. My thoughts are for a GRA carby, much easier to do blow thru than the impco 425 if any of the writings on the internet are to be believed in regards to mods required to a 425. Cheers ToranaGuy

Definaltely something to look at.
I have been having thoughts about an injected kit but am too tight at the moment to put another $1500 into one and still have it running off another computer. My current 425 setup is totally stand alone so its fixable in the bush. Things to research and look into.

The only real problem I have with it would be getting seamless switching rather than that momentary cut in power when you flick from petrol to gas. Don't know for sure though.

Would just have to remember to only change between fuels while coasting or idling. It would be pretty nasty to switch between fuels and have a dead lean spot there for a second while on boost anyway.

425 is doable too.
Go onto mudrhino.com.au and look up a thread by cookie monster. He put a 425 impco and turbo on a 4.2 litre. I'd give you a link but cant get on it at work. |

Yeah, but it needs mods. If the car already has the impco 425, a swap to a gra it's too hard to do. Cheers ToranaGuy

He wants to turbo a V8 in a maverick. Im sure he can manage a few small mods to a gas carb.
Personally I'd use gas research as well. |
