But it's a brand new complete unit, not a second hand motor and a new mast, also no playing around swapping masts, and comes with a warranty if it stuffs up soon after installation. But in my experience the new parts often save grief. yes but its not hard to replace the mast and they dont normally stuff up, except if it doesnt get used for long periods of time (mast ceases) or someone has bent it.... Yeah the ford motors were made pretty strong.

Yeah,
Thanks for the tips people Another problem with buying new complete electrical aerial is a waste of $145.00 especially when some ahole comes along and either bends or snaps it just for the hell of it. hmmm me like to snap their arm off, they wont do it again. |

That's not really a good reason though when you think about it.
A properly working new electric aerial should wind the aerial down into a recess when the car is turned off, IE; whenever you are away from it, which would be the most likely time that someone would break your aerial (which would already be broken/ not functioning correctly if it was sticking up for someone to break anyway) As mentioned my view is guided toward peace of mind on this one. Either way your gonna end up with a working aerial.

G'day Mate, slight problem with the electric aerial. I have unscrewed the retaining nut but for some reason I cannot remove the part that pushes into the main mast (the part where the retainer screw goes on). I have taken the cover off the gear wheel to expose the white chord. The main mast has the coax cable attached. (This coax also goes through a grommet with two wires from the motor). My question ..Does the inner aerial come apart from the main barrel, if so, how is it done, I'm stumped on this one and refuse to buy a brand new one. Also, whats good to clean the old grease with? And what type of grease should I replace it with to assist the cable and wheel cog? Thanks |

there is normally a small philips head screw on the side of the outer mast that holds it in place.
one the screw is removed the main body/outer mast should just pull out, might need a bit of and twist and pull.. with the grease you can just wipe the old grease off with a rag.. i used molybdenum grease i had from when i has an rc car.. i guess any multi purpose grease will do.. if i get a chance ill take a pic of one i have here to show how it comes out... |

Hi. Yes, I did remove that small screw , also had to break the seal or glue that was placed around the main body. Thats where I did not progress any further as the main body still has the coax cable attached and the two wires from the motor sharing the same plug as the coax cable. At that point I reattached the small washers back in situ until I find a way how to remove the telescopic aerial from the main shaft.. A photo or two might come in handy and further instructions. I'll take a photo of mine on Sunday arvo or Monday morning and post it here also. Cheers. Peter |

I've done em on VTs and EBs.... That's why I suggested a new one to save you the greif... But I'm young and wouldn't know good ideas yet I guess... I hope you figure it out though....it's really annoying when you get it all back in place, turn off the radio to make it wind down...and it still sticks up an inch!!! Let us know how you go...

As stated hear are three pics.
Let me know if the brass threaded section is an integral part of the main body or does it slide out. If so, how can one dislodge it, its like stubborn as a goat. Cheers

Thanks for the pictures mate. Well, I buggered the first mast as the whole inner assembly (telescopic section) did not want to retract all the way down. There was a section that was squashed previously (prior to me) very close to the threaded nut flange. Got another one from the wreckers, will test it tomorrow. Thanks, Peter |
