hi to all, hoping to get some usefull info regarding gearbox issues i am currently experiencing.
i have a 81 zj fairlane, a lovely old girl, and i have grafted a 302 windsor (5.0 liter HO) and aod (automatic overdrive) from a 93 mustang gt, along with computer and loom. the problem is with the aod as i have lost all gears other than 1st and reverse. as i am on a tight budget now with this car, and a rebuild for this particular gearbox will come in over 1500 bucks, i am wondering if a c4 from a early aussie v8 falcon like a xd will fit up easily or can i use a 4 speed auto from a eb 5.0 litre falcon or fairlane, i could get a c4 for around 600 bucks but pretty sure it was bolted to a clevo before hitting the shelf, and ive been warned about clutch packs drying up from gearboxes that have sat for a time, and this one has. any info from you guys would be greatly appreciated, as i need to get the old girl cruising as cheaply as possible. praise our lord henry ford!! regards craig. |

A cleveland C4 will bolt straight up to a 5.0, just make sure to use the correctly balanced flexplate. Make sure you get the convertor with the C4. Also, the tailshaft may be a bit short when you fit the C4, but you should be able to find one the right length at a wrecker.
Not sure about the local 5.0/auto's, in regards to the AOD. No idea if it is the same box, a modified version, etc. Good luck.

The Local 4 speed wont fit... I believe starter is on wrong side, wiring is completely different (AOD is not electronic), and your extractors wont fit it (trust me...)
The C4 will be fine, and should be easy to make strong. You'll miss overdrive. Nigel |
