G'day
I purchased yesterday a second hand ed xr6 gearbox for my xf that has now paked second gear. Any way i need a new clutch cable as the one to match this box has to be longer. While i was in bursons i told my troubles to the mate i know that works there and he asked if i was changing the oil in the box. My reply was i hadn't thought about it. I asked how much it would cost to get the oil for it, the reply was you cant get it! B*lls*hht was my response. Apparently the T5's right up to au and similar holden boxes around the same time use dextron 3 oil with an additive. The dextron 3 is fine as its just auto trans fluid but the additive cant be purchased. Ford and Holden are the only ones who have this additive, they wont even sell it to you. The only option is to take the box to ford and they can service it. Has anyone else ever heard this and if so how did you get around it. I want to change the oil while the box is out of the car so i need to know. Cheers

I have Redline shockproof lightweight in mine. Made a big difference in shift quality and the box is quieter now.
Costs $35/Liter though! (you will need 3 litres) But if you drive your car hard its worth it, and you will never have to change it again.
