I am sure giving other options won't hurt the OP.

+1 to Clarion over Sony...personally I would by neither but that's obviously personal preference/budget (I am running Pioneer so not any better). If I had the money DD subs ring well in my ears.

Also...not sure about you, but I have never blown a sub. I have gone through 4 or 5 different subs not because they died, but because I wanted more loudness and change of style. If you blow your subs...I think you should really learn how to tune to suit the sub...not your ears and cool factor of loudness.

Nah, havnt blown a sub, but did 2 6X9s and an amp, lol.

Yeah it is HEAPS to do with the enclosure too.

One thing to remember about subs is that 'boomyness' does not inherently come from the sub.
Most of the boomyness comes from the sub being fitted in a non-ideal enclosure.
An enclosure can make a cheap sub behave very well, sure it might not be able to go as low as a more expensive brand, but it can be made to sound very good in it's workable range.

Just as a crap speaker install in your door can make expensive speakers sound like a**, the same goes for a lot of subs in prefab boxes.

You absolutely right, i got pioneer 12's and ive had two different boxes for my AU then two in the BA. And let me tell you, they all sounded very different. In-fact that's the reason i just made two new ones for the BA cuz the other enclosure was too small, and it has changed the sound heaps.

i am running two clarion subs at the moment and i would not touch anything else.

Try listening to some good subs and you will change your tune quick smart :)

i have listened to the kenwood top of the line stuff and i would still choose my clarion subs.

I said GOOD. Clarion, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony aren't in the GOOD category.
Try Exodus Audio, Image Dynamics, Boston Acoustics, Digital Designs, Vibe Audio, Diamond Audio, Dynaudio, Focal, Hertz, Peerless, RE Audio for just a few :)

He's asking between Sony and Clarion, not for a list of manufacturers copied off the net.

You may want to learn how forums work and what quoted text means... It means I was replying to jonathon. Jonathon did not ask the original question.

Also, my list isn't from the internet, I've owned over half of those brands and know from experience the others are great sounding.

I have a Clarion sub, PXW1552 or something similar. Was easily the best 15" in my budget at the time, but it was on special, I think $150 odd off which definitely helped its cause.

Thanks again for even more help guys :D
I have to agree with the sub boxes, comparing different ones from my friends cars they all show different quality just due to sizing and if they are closed or ported.

If you plan to design your own box, look into WinISD software or Bassbox Pro is even better. I think all the Clarion subs are better suited to sealed, so using them in ported boxes would need some skill to get them sounding good.
