i have got a EFII XR6 manual. and first and 2nd gears sound like there straight cut ( a high pitch whine) 3rd is slightly...4th is nothing and 5th has a slight whine on decelleration.
i was told by previous owned it was the thrust bearing or spiggot bearing?? could this be the case? drives and shifts normally. any help would be appreciated. cheers |

sorry to state the obvious. but have you checked the oil level. one of the boys from work had the same problem. only got half a cup of oil out when he did an oil change.

put a banana peel in it. she'll be right lol
i'm joking. like it's been said check oil. maybe do an oil change and make sure you put the correct oil in it.

yeah changed it yesterday and put in a G70 additive. still no go.
im thinking it may be the input shaft bearing. as theres no noise when the clutch is pushed in. but there is noise when the engine is making contact with the gearbox. i.e spinning the input shaft. |

and i have been reading up. and found that the inputshaft is under load in every gear or something except 4th?? (sorry if thats not right but you get my gist)

All the bearings will need replacing.....sounds like input as well as cluster shaft bearings too....no noise in 4th.

The input shaft bearing is under the most load in 1st, and less as you go through the gears, with next to zero load in 4th as the power does not transfer through the lay shaft.
If the noise was worst in 1st and less as you went through, then most definitely the input shaft bearing. |
