For some strange reason my EF wagon will refuse to start on occasion unless I pump the s**t out of the brake pedal.
Has anyone else ever had this issue? or any ideas why this could be happening?

when you say refuse to start - does it crank?
possibly a bad bcm / smartlock |

I have to hold the key over in the 'start' position while pumping the brake pedal to get her to crank. Sometimes only a couple of pumps and she'll go. And sometimes I won't even need to, but on occasion it'll take a good 10 - 20 seconds of pounding on the pedal before she'll turn over. When she does crank she'll fire up immediately but it is VERY inconvenient. cjh wrote: When it does start...does it blow black smoke???....leaking injectors??? Yes, only a small puff, gone in seconds but it is noticeable. Also the revs seem very high for about 2 - 5 seconds (over 2000rpm) when she does fire up. I'm not sure about the leaking injectors, there is no noticeable fuel smell around the car, even with pressure in the fuel lines so I'm GUESSING no.

sounds like a bad bcm, next time it does it instead of pumping the brake, hit the dash near your left knee. The bcm can be repaired, or you can install a smartlock bypass module to resolve this problem

Typical!!! Now I want it to play up so I can see if it's the BCM and of course she fires up 1st time, every time!! Bloody cars!!
Cheers for the info and I'll keep you posted on it next time she plays up.

Another vote for a dry joint in the BEM.
When it's not cranking, pull the CRT LP fuse - if it now motors over (won't start though), then smartlock in the BEM is an issue, particularly if the smartlock LED is not flashing codes.

I pulled the fuse and it made no difference, still not cranking over. The smartlock LED blinks as normal until you turn the key to ignition, then it stays steady for 1 - 2 seconds and goes out. (As normal IIRC, I never really paid much attention to it before)

if you want to send the BCM over to perth, I can repair it for you, alternatively you can install a smartlock bypass from www.shiftkits.com.au

Just pick up another from the wreckers and plug it in and set it to reprogram,
