Sticking throttle on xg ute
G'day all once again I have a problem with the ute. I have just rebuilt the head, and replaced head gasket etc. Intake manifold was removed in order to replace bad welsh plug near distributor. I thought I would clean the throttle body right out as well as the isc. On reassembly and after setting the timing after shorting two left hand pins in diagnostic connector, the car runs great but seems to have a sticking throttle. On idle if revs are raised to say 1500 rpm, the revs will remain there despite me releasing tension on throttle cable! The revs eventually lower down again after about 10 secs. Very annoying and embarrasing! I have rechecked timing, checked accelerator cable, cleaned isc three times! Any help greatly appreciated! |

This is a very common problem with EF-EL's
It will be incorrect idle speed either set too low or too high Get engine to normal operating temp, disconnect ISC plug and set idle speed to factory spec. Take car for a short drive once idle speed is set still leaving ISC disconnected. Turn engine off connect ISC, then test drive. This is way i do it im sure others have different ways but it works for me. Also to set static ignition timing the idle speed has to be correct and engine at normal operating temperature If that fails you might have a vacuum leak but sounds like incorrect idle speed to me, have seen this many times |
