Hi. Been doing my EF I6 and auto into XF ute conversion. All in and bolted up ect.
Here is the problem. Using complete EF loom(engine, instruments, dash) and cluster with a J3 chip with a*** bypass, still using XF steering column and lock, should be easy you say! Not! For some reason the engine is cranking on the ignition wire(the red/green) and not the start wire(smart lock wire (red/blue)) this wire simply makes the fuel pump relay and another(not sure which one) go beserk. I have tried this with the bcm connected or with the smartlock wire bridged, same diff just no smartlock light. If this were simply a smartlock problem I would not expect the engine to crank. I am wondering if there is a short in behind the fuses where the looms all come together. Any ideas. I can't understand why these two wires almost seem as if they are reversed. They are not. The only wires I have cut and shut, I have checked, all good. The conversion has gone well but this is giving me the sh....... I mean irrits. Any help much apprieciated. |

why not use the XG barrel?
I'd be checking earths, I found that XF wiring has a lot of earth near the headlights. What looms are you running?

I'd pull the starter relay out and just check to see if it has gone n/c.
Check voltages to that relay while your at it, if its 9~ish volts that may indicate a cross line or feedback. I'd be undoing the gearbox plug (auto or manual) as well to minimize non thought of places. I found with our EF to XF there was a difference between XF T5 gearbox loom and an EF one. strangely enough, I had a similar starting issue with ours. yet I ran a complete XG loom. then recheck the ignition barrel backing perhaps?
