hi all
what is the average cost to get your pinion bearing replaced or fixed! is it sort of a simple fix or is it a long exspensive task. $$ ball park figure would be nice as i think mine is f**k aswell! only happens in 1st gear up to 40klph then i cant hear it, pete. |

I got a couple of quotes and the highest is $1300-$1500 with the works.
the other is just new bearings, what nots and shims to make her nice and tight if pinions are ok. $750-$900 depending on what needs replacing apart from the pinion gears.

Sounds like pretty standard rebuild prices. Both Craft and Diff dynamics in Sydney are in that price range for an overhaul service providing there is nothing major going on.

yep, if its rounded up @ $1300 for a new pinion kit then it's cheap as chips. if it falls between $1500- $1900 then I'll know it'll be some heavy duty s**t that'll last for ever, which is about right for the labour involved.
BTW, did I ever hinted the quotes were questionable?

Slick wrote: Change your rear wheel bearings first. it got rid of some of the grinding metallic noise but it's not as bad as before. good thing the diff guy was up front with his prognosis and suggested to change the more excisable parts first to isolate where the problem is. he reckons it might be just a pinion bearing thats playing up in the diff. Yeah i plan on doing wheel bearings but im 99% sure its diff. |
