pretty much, they are also common for corroding the timing case water jackets which could also be causing your leak.
By getting a s/h engine you could be in the same boat as you wont know service history

If I do replace the timing gasket do I need to take the water pump off again? And will I have to bugger around with the timing? The reason I dont really want to do the W/Pump again is coz the only gasket I could get cost me $40 from Ford which I think is pretty rediculous for a damn gasket. Noone makes them aftermarket apparently unless you buy another pump . . .

i would do it at the same time but you could get away without taking the pump off the case, just take out the bolts that go all the way through.
There is no reason to touch the timing gears

This is a repost from someone else who had water pump issues. So look at this,

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-8501-A50/

It is the pump, timing cover and associated gaskets. Worth every cent and is genuine ford. It fits on our motors with little mods. The water pump pulley will need to be redrilled, or you could fit aftermarket underdrives without any problems. I already had the underdrives with 8 bolt holes so it covered the smaller snout of the pump.

What's the pros and cons of underdrives? If it comprimises my charging system I don't really think I want them due to my stereo . . .

i personally think the undercharging the alternator at idle thing is silly. but people are getting decent power/torque upgrades by using underdrives.

and why you remove the timing cover doesn't coolant get into the oil?

Ok so just got the car back from the shop. Pretty good diagnosis . . . He must have been fairly leanient - nice bloke

He wrote that I need the following for RW:

New Rear Discs
Upper Level Stop Lamp
Remove Rear Window Tint (Bubbled)
LH Mirror
FR Wheel Bearings Adjusted
Rear Muffler (Snapped of Mount, Gutted)
Windscreen Wiper Blades
Window Washers (Re-Connected)
Spare Wheel Secured

Now I know that I also need to do:

LHR Seatbelt (Wont Retract)
Timing Chain Cover Gasket
5 New Tyres
Radiator Flushed or Replaced (Unsure ATM)

Nice Fella :P

Even if I was to get on, which I wouldn't, I would still do things like my rear discs, wipers, muffler ect coz its still the family car . . . Should probably fix that seatbelt too . . .
