Turn the air con on and then check the fans.... You will find that both fans will be blowing flat out. If not, check fuses and relays.

over heating light?
as in when the temp gauge goes past the red and light comes on OR a red symbol down the bottom that looks like a radiator? if the second one came on it means the coolant is LOW not overheated.

Does the XH even have a low coolant warning on the dash?
Its either your fan relays or your fans. I'm more inclined to go with the latter. When it does get hot do both fans come on or just the one fan? If its just the one does it speed up and blow heaps hard or does it just potter along doing its business as if the engine is cold? Changing them is only a 10 minute job. |

There may also be a hairline crack in the headertank letting pressure but not necesarily fluid out, or could be faulty coolant temp sensor. But like I said, turn your A/C on which will make the thermos run at full power, if they dont do it, then check electrical things as previously mentioned.
