Im keen on working up a clevo 351 in a XD but not sure where to start. I would be looking at replacing engine- maybee crate job,transmission-to toploader, diff- to 9" and look at replacing springs and shocks ect.
Is it a better option for me to buy a 6cyl body, as i would be replacing alot of the running gear if i bought a V8 anyway? Is a 6-8 conversion only a mater of changing springs and brakes to be compliant? Ten years ago i had a 79 XD with above mentioned gear and it was a solid ride. Regret selling it now and would like the chance to start again. There are alot more 4.1's in good nick for the right price out there, would it be worth using 6cyl as a base or should i just look at starting with a factory fitted V8? Sure im not the first to ask in forum but if you can hit me with a link or any info i would appreciate it as there are so many posts to go through, cheers. |

I reckon you should buy whatever has the best body, whatever running gear it has. Mechanicals are easy to fix and replace. body work is not.

Yep. XC-XE Engine mounts (lower), possibly power steering hoses, but the rest is the same noting what youve already said (Front Springs, Rear Disc Brakes)
I had a 79XD I really regret selling - sold it to a 19yo and it ended up in Vic . LPG, quick etc. Needed to preserve my licence. Im in the process of putting a 5.0 windsor into my XF now - with the EB Dash and climate. Cant help myself. There is lots, and lots of advice on xfalcon.com on stuff like this. Nigel |
