Ok guys, for about a year I have been banging on about how awesome SWC's Fairmont was and that I was going to do the same.
Well after looking at a heap of XB Bonnets my panel beater (Marriner Smash Repairs in Rockinghams - Rod there is a champion) we found one that was in good nick to do the graft. There is apparently an issue in the differences between the metals - eg the XB is thicker and there are issues apparently around spot welding etc. So after about 4 weeks, the bonnet is now getting prepped for the Burgundy Fairmont paint job. I've attached a couple of pics. I'm pretty excited.

Well yeah. it took a few weeks to find the right donor bonnet. The first few were just really bad. And people want REDICULOUS amounts of money for them. One guy wanted 400.00 for basicly.. RUST. and another one had just been cut of the bonnet of a holden.. yes a holden.
So it was a hassle. Eventually we found one that wasnt too bad, it was straight. It was a case of just preping the bonnet (sandblasting etc). |

Looks great.
SWC did my EB bonnet, and I know how hard these sort of mods are to do. If you don''t mind, could you let me know how much the whole job, including painting is setting you back? Cheers BenJ

Hmmm, not my thing. Power bulge maybe. The way I see it is the EF Mont is a smooth looking donk and then you put some big holes in the bonnet.
Will it be functional?

ok guys,
Bonnet has been blocked twice and painted. As you can see its pretty dusty in the workshop, but tommorrow she'll be all cleaned up after a bit of cut I think they said and buff etc. Question.. What would you recommend.. the XB vent inserts (the bits at the front of the nostrils) are currently the colour of the car. Do you think they should be black. If I think about Ford in the 1997, I'm inclined to believe that they would paint the inserts the same colour. I'm of two minds.. Burgs or black. On a different note, my headlights were misty yellow, well managed to remove the yellow..apparently the clear coat on them goes yellow) and re applied it and brought the old headlights back to life! Pick her up tommorrow, so will post some pics of her clean (and not in a panel shop) Woody out.

Ok, this is what she looked like when I bought her.
Done since then.. - Replace coils, shocks, joints etc.. basicly.. had all her running gear ripped out. - Removal of nerder extreme badges (see the attached of what they had on it) - 2.5" split exhaust from Cat back - XB bonnet. To do in new year: - Replace front bar lip - Replace service Diff and Auto (rebuild if need be) - Retrim of seats - Rims and wheels - Extractors and highflow cats Mid Next year - Brake Upgrades - 302 upgrades.. Trickflow trackheat topend kit - 24lbs injectors and fuel line, 75mm throttle, and 75mm MAF - ECU replacement (thinking Wolf V500) - Bottom end rebuild and block brace End of year.. Get her blown.

My suggestion is to leave those vents in body colour, get yourself a second set of vents and play around with some colour variations.
I polished the tops of my vents for a different look, as complete silver was just too much. Looks great. Cheers BenJ

I was thinking of maybe doing similar to the attached. Note the stripe on the side. That could work. I could remove the door garnish where the chrome is (where it says 5.0 V8). Give it that vintage look
