I've recently got an EB Falcon and it turns over fine, builds oil pressure but won't fire. What would be the 1st things to check? Could it be the smart lock immobilizing the Fuel pump??

Any help would be appreciated.

two things top a car from running, no fuel or no spark (you can pretty well bet the air is in the cylinder)...

do you hear the fuel pump whir when the key is turned to on?

smartlock doesn't stop the pump...

have you checked for spark?

do you hear the injectors pulsing? or better still tested them with a test lamp?

Cheers,
Tim

Why do you think its smartlock. Does the smartlock light flash?
If not, does the car have a cd player/ radio in it?
There is a wire behind the sterio that, if its not conected to accessories I think it is, will justleave the car turning over

There is no wire in the back of the stereo that does this... With the stereo removed the car will start an run fine... Why do you think this?

As far as i know smartlock wasnt even around until around somewhere in early EB II falcons, anyway if there was some kind of smartlock issue youd think the car wouldnt turn at all, id recommend checking ur ignition system, that being the coil, distributor, TFI.

I just checked and there is no injector pulse.... What would be preventing this, you're right there is no smart lock in the EB Falcon. BTW there is no stereo (this is how i got the car)

It has no spark in that case too?

If there is no pulse I'd be leaning toward a cooked TFI module on the side of the dizzy...

Or the less common one is the sensor inside the dizzy...

Cheers,
Tim

My eb is eb1. It has no smartlock.
My mates had a eb2 xr6. We replaced the cd player in it. There was a brown wire I think that was either wired into the acc or constant power. Without it hooked up the smartlock didn't flash and the car wouldn't fire.
Exactly the same thing in his next car wich was a ef xr6.
Only cranking.
That's why I thought maybe it could be that as an option if you couldn't get her going.

brown wires are 9 time out of 10 park light wires...

if this is the case you have some odd wiring in that car... the smartlock wires run up into the loom over the top of the dash to the computer and the other way to the barrel... They don't drop down to the CD player at all... Something funny happened in that instance...

Cheers,
Tim

I thought it was someone playing around with something in his eb. But the ef was exactly the same. Wich I don't get.
And the smartlock only works when that wire is powered.
Maybe they were from an alarm.

there is no smartlock wires going to the stereo, when i got my ed the stereo loom had been cut straight off and the car ran fine, when re attaching the loom all wires were for stereo only..

its usually the fuse that blows when people fiddle with the stereo or interior light...

Also some of the smartlock features run off the wiper fuse as per Ford's diagram, whether the wiper fuse actually immobilises the car as the interior light one does I'm not sure, I've never tried...

What happened with your stereo is a bit of an odd case as Troy said we can't see why it would have happened...

Cheers,
Tim
