390/427 (FE) engines are the same as windsor and cleveland, but 429/460 (& 351M/400) use a different starter. I have tried a clevo starter on a 460, no chance of fitting.
CVR & TCI only list the one starter for a 400 & 460, for both auto & manual.

Ok my mates 429 has a std. rat trap but I've just discovered that he has a dellow bellhousing so it's likely the reason for that. He does however have an '86 F350 which also has std. later type Rat trap and it's all stock. So it seems there was a point they changed over? He reckons the difference is just the threaded hole in one posi...which you can just drill out.
I notice the Tilton info shows a 3 bolt starter and then says cut that lug off for Boss9!?

Now we're getting somewhere. This is what i need to sort it, it just has to be confirmed. This is what I mentioned earlier. I am quite capable of minor alterations to a starte,r ie drilling out a threaded hole, or even tapping one out to a bigger thread size, but the rest have to fit. I might dredge through that tilton info and see what dimensions match. It would be handy though if i can get some definitive do's/don'ts in this case. I don't (read can't afford) to modify a starter and ruin it.

Typical. I could find the same drawing sent through to me earlier on a link, but all the rest are more generic general arrangement types that dont show dimensional detail of the mount hole PCD etc.

Actually if you go a little further down there's this....

It seems there's a pinion depth issue aswell? So maybe an end bracket change is all that's required?
