I have a 2002 AU S III forte and my mate got me a head deck and he said he would help me install it but we don't know how to connect the buttons on the steering wheel.
Anyone know how?? It's a JVC KD-G646 if that helps. |

I had this problem years ago with my AU, apparantly you can get a loom or interface or something to let the buttons talk to the stereo. Not sure if there is one available for your head unit though. Id re-label the buttons as 'ejector seat' and 'missile arm' cos I have a sneaky suspicion you wont be able to use them anyway.

you buy a headunit which is compatible with steering wheel controls (via optional adaptor)
a quick google search shows your JVC unit isnt steering wheel controls are s**t anyway, i never use them |

Hey Mate,
Theres a module called a CAT10, that basically hooks up to the factory wiring and then has a little infra red sensor on it. The little infra red sensor goes where your interior light is, pointed towards the deck, when you hit the button on the steering wheel it sends the deck the same signal as the remote control for the deck would. Check on their website and make sure its compatible with your deck before buying it though. Most audio shops sell them. http://www.thecat.net.au/cat10.htm Good Luck,

Yeah, it is possible but alot of piss f@rt around. You would need to take the control apart and solder wires where the FF button and the volume up and down buttons are, then run those wires to the swithces on the steering wheel. Then take off the infra red sender on the remote and re-attach it with a long as hell wire, and glue it up somewhere near the interior lamp, then have the remote PCB hooked up below the steering wheel somewhere.
Hmmmmmmm, im thinking i might have to give this a try aye. It sounds simple enough i spose .
