Hi all, Have a ? on changing rear pads on a ea. I've done many on other cars, and done the front of the ea friday no probs. When i bought the rear pads i was told u cant use a g clamp as the piston screws in. could i get some advice on how to do them without buying any special tools. ty.

its fiddly and yes sometimes u need a g clamp if the pistons are tight in the bores.
What I do is remove the calipers off the mounts, undo the handbrake cable and arm, remove the rubber washer thing and work out which way you have to turn the hand brake fulcrum thing (I dunno what else to call it) using a 13 mm spanner. When you turn it usually the head dissapears into the back of the caliper, which is when you have to use the G clamp to push it back out, however you have to put a socket over the head of the handbrake turny thing to force the pressure onto the back of the caliper, otherwise you just brake the piston. You have to do this a few times and I usually apply some rubber grease to the side of the piston to assist its transit back into the bore. Its fiddly and frustrating and I went through all of it last week when I did the rear pads on my EB. Good luck with it man. Edit...dont use vaseline, Tickford_6 needs all he can get for lube when he is pulling on his c0ck. Last edited by dazza027 on Sun Nov 28, 2010 11:13 am, edited 2 times in total. |

Don't use Vaseline...it's mineral based......not compatable with rubber brake components.

At best your brakes will start to drag, at worst you have a major failure and end up with no rear brakes just when you need them. Lets hope you hit a tree and not another car, at least you'll only hurt yourself, and no one els that way. Do you people realize how dangerous this stuff can be. |

get over your self mate.
Go and a have a re read. I was pointing out the potential risk to life you have created, all in the name of being tight a***. Next you at at bunnings buy one of the cheap welders, Take it home and weld your f**k tool box closed. And with vaso in your rear brakes i doubt you'd make it here anyway. |
