Well, to save me starting a new thread.

Any tips on re-installation?

Is the special tool necessary or can it just be tapped in GENTLY?

Just reading through the manual the diagram shows it needs to sit over a small lip, is this tricky or will it pop itself over?

kind of twist it so the inside lip goes over the crank. then use plenty of vas, grease, oil etc on the inside and outside of the seal so it slides in easily. and so the inside doesn't burn when first started because it's dry.

Yeah, I always use LOTS of lube, (keep I clean ya dirty minded bastard lol)
Then use a flathead or some sort of drift and a hammer, and just tap it verry gently and slowly.
I figure this tool is just designed to give the even pressure all around the seal and I can usually tap it in pretty evenly anyway by slowly moving around it is I go.

I guess if I stuff it I can try again while it's apart.

It's a pretty crappy job though, full gearbox and flywheel off job for a 5 minute seal out/in job....I'm kicking myself for not doing it when I converted it.

i did mine on friday when my clutch was getting done.
used a small flat blade to get the old one out,
got the new one on to the point of it starting then put the old seal behind the new seal ( so no dammage could be done to the new seal when tapping it in) and taped the new seal in keeping it even all the way in and slid the old one off the crank ,done!
