Hey guys
I have had some issues with my cars heat and water. I have just changed the over flow tank and the hose running from that Now the last couple days when it has been fairly hot outside, once the car has been turned off, the little hose that comes out of the over flow pisses out with water from the tank, draining the whole tank. Now i think this could be an issue with the thermostat. Just wondering what peoples opinions are on this? If it is the thermostat, am i able to change this myself and if so, how? Also what price am i looking at for a new thermostat? Thanks so much Daniel |

it could be the radiator cap or the dreaded head gasket???

Ahhh please, i hope its not my head again, did it over a year ago!!
Is the radiator cap something im able to check if it has an issue? Also is it worth changing the thermostat? Cause as i was bleeding the coolant the other day, we are pretty sure we didnt hear the thermostat click over to let water through. |

You wont hear the thermostat "click over". If you run the car without the cap on and let it get to temp and then turn off, does it still boil over? If so could very well be your termostat. If it does not, sounds like cap

lol the cap is a simple thing to do. Got to autobarn, super cheap, bursons etc and buy a new one and then fit it

Ok thanks
Im just confused with this problem, as there is some circulation happening with the water. I fill the overflow up with normal water, yet when it does pour out with water, it has coolant mixed in. Its just with the second cycle where the water needs to be put through to the radiator again yet its not happening. Is this why it could possibly be the radiator cap? |

sounds like the cap. just replace it (they're like 10 bucks) see how you go.
my EB did it like you said. only once you turn it off

Ok, so the cap could be stopping the cycle of the coolant back to the radiator ?

Yes it can due to pressure. If after replacing the cap there is no sign of improvment, replace the thermostat. Hopefully that will fix it cause then it might be your radiator

daniel000 wrote: Ok, so the cap could be stopping the cycle of the coolant back to the radiator ? the cooland doesn't flow back to the radiator so to speak. the bottle is a reservoir. it's still part of the system. it isn't a recovery tank. when you turn it off the pressure builds up and if your cap is faulty it'll relieve to to easily thus letting it all out onto the ground
