don't place any gap on the major thrust side. just stagger them at 45degree from parallel with the piston pin. and have the second ring gap 180deg from the top ring gap.
0.0045" per in of bore for the top ring and 0.0055" per inch of bore for the second ring. Oil rings min of 10thou. Stock I6 bore 3.631" = 16 thou top ring and 19 thou second ring. Unless you're building a turbo or nitrous engine engine. in which case i'd go 18thou and 21thou |

once ive ran it in i was planning on putting the turbo back on once ive saved up for it, can i run the engine without forced induction with the ring specs for blown, nos gaps

You always want the second ring to have a larger end gap. Other wise you run risk of pressure build up under the top ring which will result in ring flutter and power loss.
This problem is made worse with boost or nitrous. Yeah you can run wider gaps with out boost, it's just not optimal. |
