Hey all, I just purchased a HID kit and would like to know how to make them less bright for around town. Is there something that I can do with resistors? Cheers.

Actually, does anybody know the legality of using the HIDs just for high beam?

hey mate, generally hids are no good for high beam as they take time to warm up before giving full brightness and in which case when you use high beams sometimes you need to flash them or turn on/off quickly (this is no good for the lights) I guess if you are out in the country where there arent many cars then there is no issue but just so you know if you are constantly turning them on and off they won't last as long.

As for less bright I am pretty sure there isnt much you can do. I assume you are blinding everyone due to the poor light spread in the halogen reflector. I spent ages trying to find a bulb that captured well within my standard halogen reflectors and finally have one bulb design, however you will need to angle your headlights down a fair bit regardless of how well the spread is as they are still fuk off bright!

Cheers

Phil

Legality for high beam? I don't think it's legal. It's not even legal for low beam unless your has been ADR approved with it. You install them at your discretion. Just point the low beams further down so you don't irritate other drivers.

Yeah, you can't dim them.

The ballast to bulb side is (very) high voltage. and the battery to ballast side won't make any diff, as the ballast in all but the crappiest units are a switch mode supply, so adjust for lower voltage.

Also as stated, they're illegal unless your car came with them from factory. *they need things like self leveling optics, and washers
