Hey Modders,
I'm keen to do a pair of hub bearings on the XR6 soon and I was hoping there might be someone around who has the tools that I could borrow to do the job at home in my driveway. I have all the parts ready (2 x bearing hubs) and plenty of enthusiasm, I'm just missing the tools. Looking to beg/borrow a torque wrench that goes up to 305nm (to do up the nuts) and a matching 36mm deep-socket. To acknowledge the savings, I am happy to pay in the currency of beer/alcohol. I guess no one has a torque wrenche that goes that high, thats cool.
Ok, next decision is to take it to a mechanic, or just buy the tools myself ($120 on ebay for a no-name wrench from Taiwan, and $20-$40 for socket). Anyone know a mechanic who would to the job for less, like fifty bucks? I'm assuming with a workshop and a trolley jack its just a 30min job. ::Jordan |

What are you doing up that need a setting of 305nm, front hub nuts are only 30nm on a EF?

Jordan is right, Ford specifies 305nm for AU/BA/BF hub nuts. I have never seen any of our mechanics use a Torque Wrench to tighten them though.

i can do it for you mate im in penrith . I have all the tools .except the t wrench but they just need to be done up f'ing tight and there fine . Is it au or ba

Its AU, and thanks for the offer Turbo_Ghia, I'll take you up on that.
Don't worry about the wrench. Its possible to just stand on the bar at a particular distance from the nut and get to the correct ballpark. It's great for this job where the forces are vertical, but not for something horizontal, like say doing up engine head bolts. The physics reckons about 144kg on the end of a 12" breaker bar, or 72kg (ie; half) on the end of a 24" bar. ::Jordan |

I think FT (fu*#en tight ) is the correct spec for those hub nuts.
