yep, just for this, then im sending it to someone else to get it tuned up to run on PULP only and then back to HP to get a power run done

well personally I would not run a pod.
I would mod the fans so they fit properly, and then run the cold air intake, as you already have a quality air cleaner. I'm not a fan of pods even though I run one myself ! plus the more stock it looks the better ! but cold air is the best, it will make more power, use less fuel and will help in engine heat. You could always get the tuner that is tuning it for pulp to dyno it 8) as I'm sure they have access to a dyno that will be the same accuracy, and would be cheaper !

yeah but i'd rather get it done on the same dyno as my last few as then i can be 100% sure about the figures..., minus the temp and stuff.
and maybe what i could do is maybe put a big pipe from the airbox to the bottem of the car and it could suck from under there?, but i've heard the pod still sucks better then the panel filter tho.

just for the record when my car was nat asp
I ran once with full airbox, k&N filter and all on the dyno and another pass with nothing. noairbox at all did not make 1 hp difference. Another car i did was an ef 6 cyl he made a pod and big pipes and all . made 125 kw , not bad. put the std ford stuff on with high flow foam filter made 132 !! hrmm, maybe the ford stuff is not so bad after all. if you put the pipe nice and low it can pick up the water and dust as you drive. That's why manufacturers put the intakes in the bonnet seam as it is a high pressure area and gets mostly 'clean' air. also down low will get the heat off the road on hot days.

have you tried putting a EF snorkle on it??? as the EB V8 uses the same air box as an EF 6 or 8 . this would be a much better option than a pod filter.

i have a mod'd EF Snorkel, that what it had on it...., and just wondering EB V8 and EF airbox lid is a touch different isn't it?

My guess is it will blow hot air from the radiator . You are better off running a snorkel, or piping to another place, to draw cold air.

The EB-EL airbox is pretty much the same, there is minor differences, but the snorkels are interchange-able. The EL GT/XR8 one is the biggest one that will fit, you can make the T-Series or AU XR8 one fit with a bit of heat, then bend it to make it clear the power steering pump.
If you're changing snorkels or putting pod filters in to get big increases in power, you're going to be dissapointed. The stock airbox still flows fairly well, cutting a hole in the inner guard will flow more air, as will mounting a pod under the guard, but you have bigger restrictions still. the 55mm MAF, 58mm TB, pissweak HO manifold, E7 heads, exhaust manifolds that look like they have been run over with a truck, and over-rich tuning. Running a pod in place of the airbox isn't a very smart idea either, all it does is sucks hot air that has just passed through the radiator. |

i never said i was going to put the pod in the engine bay, hot air from the radiator isn't going to find it's way under the wheel arch.
and anyway im going to use my mod'd EF snorkel on it again i'll just have to cut a few things and try mount it there somehow.

I've seen a proffesional writeup of a guy who had access to a dyno (soarer v8), dyno'd it from standard, pod filter, panel filter, CAI, Phenolic spacer, oil type.
A dyno report for each additional mod. Pod - Waste of time, lost power. K&N - Panel filter - Gained slightly. CAI - 1kw improvement CAI/Phenolic - 7kw and 10NM Gain Full synthetic (can't remember type) - 3kw Gain There's a lot of wank factor to the Pod setup, however if that's your cup of tea, so be it. I can't express enough the importance of throwing a Phenolic spacer on with the CAI. It compliments the other. What's the use of getting cold air if it's only to be heated up by the motor in the intake. You'll notice the difference after a drive and you can actually rest you hand on the intake! |
