Just wondering before I put the head back on my motor(EBII),if it's possible to prime new hydraulic lash adjusters,or do you just wait for them to pump up?
Cheers, Kevin. |

I just get a cup full of clean new motor oil and drop them in it; when there are no more bubbles coming out you'll know they are full of oil and ready to go.

Thanks for the tip.I'd hate to fire it up and have them all clattering away til they did pump up,as I'm replacing all the original old ones after 15 years of use.

They may still clatter for ten seconds but that's normal. Any longer than that and you might have issues...

10 seconds? I'd give them a minute on idle before expecting them to all become quiet.. well as quiet as they'll be.

Engine has only just ticked over 192,700 odd klms, has about 300-350kpa oil pressure at cold idle, and runs at abot 250-300kpa at 100klms/hour.Both oil & filter changed at 5,000klm intervals, coolant every 12 months regardless of k's travelled,so everything should be O.K.
Cheers, Kevin. |

We put 12 precision branded units in a motor... Brand new...
About 2 or 3 would not go quiet and rattled continuously... We got another set, swapped them out... Sat them in a cup of oil first this time and still 2 or 3 of the new primed set would not go quiet... Ended up mixing and matching the two sets to get a quiet motor... What a PITA that was... So my conclusion is aftermarket ones are s**t... So when I do mine I bought 12 seals and will be pulling the factory ones apart and cleaning them and fitting new seals... Plus its much cheaper too... Seal cost me less than 30 bucks IIRC... Cheers, Tim

I would pull the rocker gear apart, clean the whole lot, fit the new HLA's, lube everything with engine oil, fit the rocker assembly again, refit the cover, then run the engine at high idle ( 1500 rpm ) for about 15-20mins, then take it for a drive.
