I have had troubles starting my car for the last 12months, problem is when it cranks it sounds like a flat battery but after a few tries it will fire up, my dad's EL wagon has the same problem, he changed the starter motor thinking it was the problem but it still occurs. any leads??

it is something to do with the spark. Could be the leads, plugs or the coil pack might be on its way out
EDIT: oops just noticed EL. Maybe the dizzy or the shaft

A flat battery tends to sound like a relay clicking quickly. Does it sound like this? I would look at the relay and check how strong your ground wires are to the block and chassis.
