You'll get more power by turning off the gas than you would from adding a snorkel. But if you must, the snorkel will add throttle response and maybe a few horsepower if you're lucky. Spend $250+ on a fancy off-the-shelf snorkel, or make your own using genuine Ford parts and a few odds and ends for half the price. Depends if you can make stuff or not, I guess.

this is what i made for mine, got the idea from an autospeed article, they used a bit of 50mm pipe, i used that 1st hence the semi circle cut, made the deflector from 1.6mm mild steel and siliconed it on.
not sure if theres is enough room on an el xr.

but is there any point in playing around with the snorkels and moding the air flow when i've got a 200 impco mixer in the middle of it?? will it make any difference or not worth the time?

no point with lpg,

i have put on a XH snorkel and K&N filter on my EB that during the week runs a impco 200 mixer. made a big difference. the gas loves the better air flow. but if you get better airflow you will have to richen the gas mixer a bit so it doesn't lean out

You would be better having an impco 225 mixer fitted,

+1, certainly superior to a 200M mixer.
See BenJ's build thread for ideas on positioning on a BBM engine.

i had the whole idea of putting one on mine. but seeings as it has a log manifold i had limited room. so i just didn't bother. it wouldn't make that much of a diffference and it'll still be slow. thats why if i'm gunna go out for skids or drags at heathcote etc i pull the mixer off and put the standard 3 inch pipe in. takes all of 5 mins to do
