Best transplant is a BDA or BDG these days , goes straight in without any problems whatsoever . Bit expensive though .

nsw changed laws to do with power to weight ratio for getting cars engineered as i was looking at dropping a 289 into my cortina, but glad a didnt and just did a resto on it to keep the original feel to it. if its in good nick keep it all original and by a not so tidy one to do up.
if you want a rotary get yourself a little s1 rx7 with a 12a they can be had for bugger all these days. extend port, webber carby, exhaust job will see good pwer out of it. dont forget apex seals

Turbo/super charged engine In millilitres (cc):Original tare mass (kg) x 4.0 No factory Escort is over 1100kg, from memory the heaviest was a 2.0L Escort Ghia Auto 4dr with the works, I think it stated 1080kg in the owners manual, don't quote me on it, I am thinking it is less as a panel van was only 890kgs (the lightest variant) with a 1.6Kent which is appox 30kg less than a 2.0L Pinto.

My MK2 escort sedan with the 2L in it weighed 880kg.As for my engine choice have decided to turn it into a drag car.I am putting a clevo into it.I have already cut the firewall and front floors out ready to mount the motor/box in.I will be using a shortened borg warner diff.

Since these photos were taken late last year i have done abit mor triming of the firewall and floors to give me heaps of room, making it easy to remove the engine and box as one unit. This project will be taking its course over 2years.Long term i spose as at the moment am building up my XD to handle a turbo.cheers
