Hey all.
I have a ef II 96 auto Fairmont with some major gearbox problems.

Ill give you all a run down on what the car is doing.

-Getting stuck in 3rd gear
-sometimes when i start it, the car goes straight into limp mode where the thermos are on full blast and it runs like its on 3 cyclinders.
-has really bad power output to the wheels
-when the car is in 1,2,3, or drive and stopped at the lights the idle does stupid things.
-dosen't start in Park
ETC, ETC

So i am Definetely going to do something about it ASAP. i just want some opinions.

Which of the following options should i do:

A) Get my auto box re-built
B) Get my auto bo Re-conditioned where they just find out whats wrong and fix it.
C) Purchase a NEW auto box and be done with it.

Bear in mind the car has done 280,000 Kilometers and it does do a fairt bit of towing. Like towing my Jetski and my Speedboat. Sometimes towing them around 120KM in distance.

Your help is much appreciated.

cheers
TURBOFAIRMONT

first, i would be checking the adjustment of the t-bar shifter underneath the car, and getting it to start in park etc
next, swap the white inhibitor, gear switch on the side of the trans, they can play up and do funny things sometimes.
grab a nice clean one from the wreckers, could be a cheap fix??

As the last post suggest replace the white inhibitor switch on the side of the gearbox you would be surprized how many people throw away a really good gearbox thinking its dead when its only the Inhibitor Switch.

Cheers Alan
