as per title..

im considering fitting a engine oil cooler as my turbo is only oil cooled and i could imagine under harsh conditions the oil would be getting super heated by the hot turbo, and im curious how many actually run coolers?
do you guys think they are necesary??...

might be worth putting an oil temp guage in and looking at how hot it gets.

wouldnt hurt running a cooler so not to burn the oil if the temp gets to high, just need to remember to add a little extra oil to bring up the volume added.

didnt the AU3 XR8's run an engine oil cooler from factory?

if so, then sounds like your plan might be a good idea, considering its under a crapload more stress :)

I don't have one.. But all my turbo engines have atleast an extra 2 or 3 litres of oil, crank scraper & windage tray...

are you sure?..... have read a few posts about engine oil coolers in the 220kw XR8's

news to me...

i know a few guys here in wa got the oil cooler and adaptor plate and mounted it to their auv8's

means they needed the stubby oil filter

I have a cooler, and the hottest the oil has got, according to my Speco gauge, is about 95 deg. I'd imagine the oil would get a fair bit hotter without it.
