Hey guys, I think my auto might be on its way out on my 97 V8 LTD, occasionally it is struggling to change through the gears and makes a terrible noise when it does do it. Something like grinding. Its terrible to hear. Its not doing it all the time just mainly when its getting hot and I have been driving for a while.

In the event that I have to replace it, Im just wanting to know what my options are, are the autos the same between the I6 and V8 models? I know the bellhousing will differ but I can jut swap that over. As far as Im aware, the auto boxes are the same from EB2 right through to the AU? If theyre the same Im thinking I may be able to find a low Kms AU I6 box and fit that in.

The I6 and V8 boxes are different, different input shafts etc for all models.

The revisions of the box IIRC are EA-ED, EF/EL/AU and then BA.. don't hold me to that though :p

The only reason Im asking is because I was speaking with a wrecker today who claimed they were all the same just with a different bellhousing.
