Hey
I have a 1980 MK2 Escort with the 1.6 kent motor, I would like to keep the original motor and do a few upgrades. I havent even look at which carbie is fitted stock mabye someone can tell me ?. But I do have a cortina gt manifold with the weber DFM carb and I wanted to confirm this would fit the esky as I believe they both had 1600 kent engines and also would it have a significant enough performance increase to warrant changing over from stock. Thanks for anyones advice |

Anything kent will change over.
But don't expect huge gains. The problem is the ports dont flow and the cam is useless. Fit the carby, a set of 4 in to 1 pacemaker headers with a 2 inch exhaust and the crow 51606 cam. that'll wake it and it'll be faster then a stock 2L. A bigger cam will need duel valve springs which brings about all sorts of problems like the stock stem seals not fitting and the stock retainers wont work with the inner spring, you'd also have problems with piston to valve clearence. changing a cam on a Kent means removing the engine, it needs to be turned up side down to keep the lifters in place while removing/installing the cam. |
