Anyone heard anything about this....the transmission in the eb has lost 2nd and 4th gears and i was speaking to a mate today who is a mechanic...and he reckons the transmission has a timing belt which wears out (stretches or snaps) which causes s**t like this to happen.
Any of you guys know if this is true and if its a cheap fix? |

yet to hear of a timing belt in a transmisson
he might mean the bands in the transmission

are the bands replaceable?..cheap?

i wouldnt think so... if its an internal gearbox problem the most cost effective option is a tranny rebuild or a swap to a T5 manual box
|

Or the cheapest option is to look around for a cheap second hand auto tranny from a car that's being wrecked. |

whats the average price on one of the second hand bastards...preferably if it was from a wrecking vehicle simply coz itd be cheaper...thing is, wouldnt it do the same thing and eventually break down again?

You can buy a brand new one and eventually it's gunna break down again! Just check the milage on the wreck you buy it off, and look for someone decent. I dunno were your situated, but I think waggin might have one (or so I gathered from the Xbox for sale thread). I paid $250 for mine I think. |

just buy a new one,
i got a S/H one form an EB for $450 with 113,000K's and it turned out to be just as rooted as the one i replaced. its not worth the trouble,
