I did that and my terminals turned a copper colour maybe I went over board with the screw driver lol , so I got a new ecu and used metho and a paddle pop stick, and stil problem but its cos I didn't remove the clear laquer, ef wagon what colour were ur j3 terminals when u finished cleaning them ?

They should be bright silver. Copper means you've scraped off the solder. It can be replaced if you're handy with a soldering iron.

So is it bad when the solder is removed?

Generally yes. Copper corrodes more easily which means over time it can oxidise and cause problems. Also as the port will be thinner you may have issues with the edge connector making a solid contact at all times.

My chip is a bit wobbly on the j3 terminals, I'll let u figure it out when I send down the ecu and chip

i made the same mistake on my EL in regards to cleaning the terminals, i took it right back to the copper, in the end i had to get myself a new ecu from the wreckers, but also the J3 chips are known to often be faulty, if you cant get it working you can send it back to T.I to get a replacement sent out to you. Paul at CVE performance was telling me that nearly every 3rd or 4th chip he got would be faulty.. so dont rule it out

When i had a problem with mine it turned out to be a faulty ECU. The car would just randomly cut out. the ecu ran 100% without the chip but gave a faulty ecu code when running a self test.

You don't want to solder the edge strips ever as they are not tinned solder but silver plated. Soldering them will cause you more problems as the solder oxidises and conectivity will be intermittent at best.
