Hey all,
My eb 1 is due for a service. I usually put a bottle of engine treatment or engine flush through it before I dump the old oil. I have left over half a 5L of nulon 10/40 and half a 5L of Shell 25w50. If I was to put a flush in the motor. Drain it after its done working and then fill the engine with the 2 half bottles of fresh oil and another engine flush then drain that and fill with a fresh oil would this be usefull. Way im thinking is the old oil can only get so many deposits to stay suspended in it whilst it drains, so doing a second flush should get more out. Let me know what you think. |

That's what I was thinking.
Do you have a preferance for engine flush brands. I've used nulon engine flush, A wyhinns (sp?) one and a sonax one and they all seemed to do the same. |

dont let your oil get dirty enough to need a engine flush
 i just changed from nulon 10w-40 fully syn to valvoline 15w-40 semi syn. it went from $80 for a service to $40 with the new oil, hell wrapped |

I havnt owned the car since 1992 so I havnt been able to do regular changes. Since I've owned it it been changed every 5000ks tho

Since I've owned it it been changed every 5000ks tho 5000km is fine...however due to possible negligence of the previous owner, I would say give it a good flush every 5000km. I usually flush the engine when hot after a drive. Then top it up with some fresh oil, maybe only 2L or so (enough to get some oil pressure), let the engine run for a few minutes on idle and then dumping that oil. Change the oil filter and top up with fresh oil. Should keep the engine clean, do that for a few 5000kms and then you should be fine with just a dump and refill, rather than the double flush or using engine flush product. I did that for the first 4 services at every 5000km. Engine oil doesn't go black until it hits about 7000km.

I read in a Ford Forum never flash engines, instead, you could do an oil change and use diesel engine oil and use it till the next oil change, then use whatever brand you normally use. Diesel engine oils have better detergents and additives than petrol engine oils. I haven't tried myself. I had real bad experience with Nulon. It cost me a lot of money on a Cleveland engine, so, no flashes for me.
I've had my DA for just over a year, the tappets were noisy. My friend mechanic put Penrite and additives, no good. I was about to change lifters. I change to Valvoline XLD 20W-50 to try first, end of problem. Saved money and back pain. http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/valv_auMS/ Chicho |

My oil starts to go black around 5000ks so that's why I do it then. I will give it a try you're way. Adding more oil's not going to dammage the engine would it. Itd only be in for 15mins or so, couldn't do too much harm |

Diesel engine oil is not designed for petrol engines especially with higher milage, due to the fact that the diesel oil does indeed have more detergents than petrol oil, by using the diesel oil in an old engine especially u run the risk of busting rings. Alot of the time its the carbon deposits on the rings that help them seal and when that gets washed away the rings wont seal and have more room to move and then the inevitable, broken rings. its happened before and will happen again. The engine flush is good for cleaning the galleries of built up sludge over time. Stick to the flush and you should be fine.
