{USERNAME} wrote: have a read of the workshop manual it says that the xr8/gt has different ratios so i'd be inclined to have yours rebuilt plus the xr/gt box has a stronger gear set apprantly deff get the biggest trans cooler you can fit ,bpt sell ones with a thermo fan fitted to the trans cooler thats what im looking at very shortly It does, where? I think you'll find they're all the same ratios. Those trans cooler setups they have certainly work well. The first thing I did with mine is flush all the fluid out using a good synthetic fluid...it's expensive but it saves your gearbox. I've also flashed the pcm for higher shift pressure. After that I have a T56 to go in btw if anyone wants a pdf of the trans manual I'll email it to you....7.7mb is too much to upload here. |

the manuals have different ratios but the autos are all the same in 4sp, 2.39/1.45/1.00/0.68 same as c4 / fmx etc (except 4th) id be very surprised if otherwise - they are all 93/95LE boxes

That does seem like an excessive price for the rebuild, but with out knowing exactly what is being done to the auto its hard to say how excessive. You have to keep in mind we do pay a premium for BTRe parts here in NZ.
I'm currently rebuilding a V8 auto in an EF; it's just an earlier version of the BA's 95 LE auto. There are a few Differences between the 6 cyl and V8 Autos. Different Torque Converter Bigger input shaft Different Bell Housing The out put shaft is a different length The rear housing is a different length The rest of the parts seem to be interchangeable with 6 cyl components. Once you have the parts out of the trans it quite obvious what parts will swap over. The hardest part of fixing the trans is getting the information on how to rebuild it and what to look out for. |

The rest of the parts look the same but the V8 ones are made of stronger materials.
I had a training manual which spelt out the differences but I lent it to some C*** who never gave it back. |

I had my V8 box fully rebuilt just over two years ago and it was $1900 drive away. I had it uprated to BA spec also, not sure if that was a good idea, but I lost the dipstick...
Hell, I'd be getting one built in Melb. or Sydney for 2K and shipped over to NZ for a couple of hundred bucks, max. You'd still be 2000 bucks in front! Mike

"BA" spec boxes are probably worse than the earlier ones, due to a smaller front pump, these tend to give problems, a lot of rebuilders are using earlier front pumps in the rebuilds
